I should have called this book RETRO as it is about all bikes but especially the Retro bike. What I actually wrote was a book about a brilliant invention the bicycle, a book about the joy of cycling, a book that peels back the myths of the cycling fraternity. A book about being a boy on a bike or a girl on a bike. A book that states that the bicycle is for everybody to enjoy not just the Carbon Fiber Cowboys and the Lycra Loonies.

Denness This book should come with a warning, it may have been quite cheap to buy but it will cost you big time in the long run. Thorogood is one of my favourite authors and he easily makes you fall in love with cycling and getting a proper touring bike and not one of those silly mountain bikes, I am now saving up to get myself a Pashley Parabike, it looks stunning and is gonna set me back over £500, hence the book needing a warning.Thorogood covers the history of bikes and cycling in his usual quirky style, he would have been a brilliant teacher, and he makes it really interesting whilst also really laying into the Lycra-clad freaks, I now feel educated enough to point and laugh at them as I speed past in my car with inches to spare.Next in the book he has published some cycling anecdotes from friends and family, including one by yours truly (me) so if you want to read about my cycling incident then buy this book or send me a cheque for £575 and I'll ride over to you on my new bike and tell you the story.

Sanderson For bike & cycling enthusiasts ,past & present, this is a highly entertaining & informative book, written in a humorous style with bite sized sections making for an easy read.It's been well researched with a plethora of nuggets of information brought together in a chronological manner.It takes us through the history, from initial invention , via the Penny farthing to the modern high tech versions as well as the hand made beauties.Materials & methods of frame construction, tyre development, gearing systems & even saddles are covered as well as the origins of many of the well known Co's & pioneers of bicycle evolution. he even manages to poke a little fun at MILS (men in Lycra suits) & the ubiquitous "mountain bike".Some astonishing stats emerge, for example, Raleigh were producing 500,000 bikes per annum around 1949.There's also a number of interesting & amusing anecdotes & even my own earliest bike, the Hercules Falcon makes the list.A truly informative book which will appeal to many,

About the Author Nick Baker has been involved in the great sport of competitive swimming since 1961. He swam competitively for eleven years, coached club for twenty-one years, and has coached swim camps exclusively for the past eighteen years. He started his coaching career in Canada in 1972, then moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in 1993 to operate a swim camp there. In 1995 Nick published 101 Winning Ways, a motivational book for competitive swimmers. The material for the book came from observing the winning ways of successful swimmers he coached. Nick cofounded the original Peak Performance Swim Camp in 1996. In 2005 he branched out on his own and founded the present-day version. Since then Nick has traveled throughout the United States and abroad, conducting his holistic camps and clinics. Past international locations include: Antigua, Aruba, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, China, Curacao, England, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Singapore, Spain, Turkey, and Venezuela. It's more akin to a PDF than a standard Kindle with bookmarking and other features.However, the information is excellent for parents interested in supporting young swimmers, and better understanding the sport our kids enjoy.There is a technical chapter, which summarizes the strokes, starts and turns used in competitive swimming. You will not find sample workouts for "crazy swim parents" who want to push their kids.We also own The Swimming Triangle, and feel this guide is a nice complement to the more detailed information published within.

This book is for coaches, parents and swimmers who want to learn more about the mental, physical, social and technical aspects of training but delivered in an easily accessible form. Coach Baker writes in plain English and demystifies the complexity of coaching using practical and simple tips and tricks that lead to realisable results. Thanks Coach Baker!

I was seriously impressed by both his knowledge of the subject and the quality of his writing. As the description says, this will help you work on your "child's health, best interest, and long-term development." So what's stopping you? Go ahead and pick up this book!
