A funny, romantic, spiritual, baseball love story that you will love By Amanda Not being a big baseball fan I thought that I might not enjoy this story as much as I did. But turned out It was just as much about the characters and fate and love as it was about baseball. It was a really great read, I was interested in the characters and what was going to happen next. The baseball parts were exciting and informative and I found myself rooting for Jake and Danny. I definitely recommend this funny, romantic little story. I think everyone would like it.

I actually learned a thing or two about baseball (7th inning stretch for instance) and numerology (unexpected) in this book that took about 2 hours to get through. It's a good one to curl up with on a weekend afternoon and read when you want a good love story and you want to feel better about what's possible in the world we live in. :)

I found myself rooting for both of the main characters to get what they really wanted. It's more about love with baseball thrown in as the setting and catapult for true love to no longer be denied.

A Lake Surfer's Journey By Brent Bean An excellent book about a man and his wife found that by following Gods call things always work out, in the matter of life, money or personal relationships. The book is an inspiration to anyone who reads it to find their own way by the help and grace of God. Should be on everyone's bookshelf very inspiring, two thumbs up!

He talks their talk. He understands the pull of the water and the fascination of the sport.Jack's writing is candid and honest. I became totally immersed in his spiritual journey. His writing tugs at the heart. He draws the reader into his stories as he reveals himself as a teenage beach bum becoming a surf-a-holic, psychologically addicted to the sport. A two year tour of duty with the Navy in the Viet Nam era led to poor choices including drug and alcohol abuse and a downward spiral of fast living and partying.In a desperate search for meaning, Jack turned to the Bible and became captivated with the sinless life of Jesus and the gospel message of God's grace, salvation, and a new life. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Surfing For Life By John Weigelt I met Jack Nordgren in Waikiki a few years ago while I was on vacation with my family. By chance (not really) we found his church in the phone book - it was not far from our hotel so we decided to visit. Our actual meeting was brief but I felt a connection somehow - not just spiritually. I have surfed with Jack twice (I think) in Hawaii and can feel his love for surfing. I recently purchased his book, "A Lake Surfer's Journey", and read it in one setting - for me, that's a very unusual event since I am not an avid reader. I was surprised and pleased to discover some similarities in our lives - almost uncanny. His "life's story", similar to mine, is one of how Jack was "surfing to find the real meaning of life" - and found it.As a minister and pastor of a church, I sometimes feel a little guilty that I love surfing as much as I do. However, reading Jack's book helped me to see that as long as our priorities in life and our perspective on the important things (such as God first) are properly lined up, we are free to enjoy God's creation. It's really like catching and riding a wave. Thank God we are still able, at our age, to enjoy the sport we grew up with and still love.

The book is well laid out and understandable. Jack uses his personal experience to help define technical aspects of the game such as player roles, terminology and penalties. He also uses a little bit of humor to help the reader understand the game!My previous experience with 'watching football' was to watch the half-time show during the SuperBowl. Once I finished reading Jack's book, I watched my first football game from start to finish (the Vikings vs the 49ers). I even knew what was happening when the ball was 'snapped'! Throughout the game, I was able to follow the 'downs' and the 'forward progress' of the ball. I was also able to figure out who was on offense and defense. Although I didn't 'see' each penalty, I knew what the official meant when calling 'Offside' and 'False Start'.Although I don't think I will ever be a die-hard fan, I am planning to watch a few more games this season and am hopeful that I will be able to apply more of what is in the book to each game.I highly recommend this book as a starting point for anyone who would like to learn enough about football to enjoy watching a game.

I was jealous of how much fun they were having and me not knowing what they are always celebrating about. I tried reading another book on football, but it was a little too complicated, and I lost interest before I even finished it. I decided to try to learn one more time. I'm really glad I read "Understanding Football for Beginners." It's broken down into easy to understand bites of information. I actually understand football now, and I watched part of the Minnesota Gophers' game today. I felt so proud of myself that I knew what was gone on (and why the clock sometimes stops and sometimes doesn't). Is IS fun! I can't wait for the NFL to kick in. I also plan on going to a game this year! Oh, and at the next Super Bowl party I will be watching more than just the commercials!

Nevertheless, I really should've read this book when I was still learning about football! This book is packed with as much information, anecdotes, and explanations that 41 pages can hold. I will probably end up giving this book to my sister to read. She hears me talking about it all the time, and she might even understand the game after reviewing this guide.
