Pequeñeces, la obra maestra de Luis Coloma (Jerez de la Frontera, 1851 - Madrid, 1914), alcanzó notable fama por la polémica actualidad de su contenido. La novela se desarrolla en los años que van del reinado de Amadeo de Saboya a la Restauración, y se centra en un grupo de aristócratas y sus conspiraciones a favor de la monarquía alfonsina. De estilo realista y tono moralizante, el trasfondo histórico permitió a Coloma la caricatura de los protagonistas de la situación política de la época , y en las tertulias y cafes de entonces se debatía sus correspondencias con los personajes de la obra, en los que el autor centraba su crítica a la aristocracia. Pero entre las funciones de ópera y los abanicos de nácar quemado, pasando de lo proceloso a lo íntimo, de los mayores empedernidos a los niños inefables, una figura destaca sobre las demás, la condesa Currita de Albornoz, mujer vanidosa y poco agraciada, mezcla de dulzura e insolencia, que, guiada por su imaginación romántica, se debate entre sus aspiraciones de libertad y los convencionalismos sociales. Coloma crea en ella una digna heroína de la literatura del xix, enigmática, desafiante, compleja y misteriosa. Enrique Miralles analiza en su edición el sabio manejo que Coloma hace de los recursos estilísticos para conseguir un estilo llano, vivo y eficaz. Pequeñeces levantó un gran escándalo en su momento y resultó un colosal éxito editorial. Su mensaje profundamente moralizante sería recuperado y reivindicado, cómo no, en los años que siguieron a 1939, esas décadas oscuras. Luis Coloma Roldán (Jerez de la Frontera, 9 de enero de 1851 - Madrid, 14 de abril de 1915), escritor, periodista y jesuita español. En su faceta de autor de literatura infantil y juvenil creó el personaje del Ratoncito Pérez.

I can spend hours on end watching the game either at a live match or on television. One of the things that has enthralled me lately is learning about some of the tennis greats over the years. I simply loved this biography of Spanish tennis superstar Rafael Nadal. It was great to learn about his rise to fame and success in the game as well as to learn some tidbits about his personal life and the various things that he does to help others. A great read.

Career and personal life By Lee Johnson It's amazing to read about these crazy good athletes or 200+ IQ scientists who just seem to have been born for a specific sport or massive insightful discovery. Reading this book, it sounds like Nadal had no outside push to play tennis: he was completely self-motivated. He dealt with It's just incredible to think about someone so excited about what he does could motivate himself to achieve what Rafael Nadal has. The author does not just focus on Nadal's developing career, but also writes about his outstanding character that has been formed throughout his personal life. He and his family maintain a foundation dedicated to "giving back to the youth", giving them chances that they would not otherwise have to excel in their interests.The book is well-written, concise, factual, and a good read. The author did some extensive research, and I did not notice any grammatical errors. I enjoyed the book!

Sobre su experiencia política escribió la novela corta Los hombres de pro, incluida en su libro Bocetos al temple (1876). Entonces dejó la política para consagrarse a sus hijos durante cuatro o cinco años. Estimulado por sus amigos Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo y Gumersindo Laverde, volvió a la literatura iniciando una especie de segunda etapa en su obra, más centrada en la narración extensa realista que en el cuadro de costumbres. Sus novelas estaban ambientadas casi siempre en La Montaña, salvo Pedro Sánchez, y presentaban como tema central la exaltación e idealización de las costumbres del pueblo frente a las urbanas. Sus obras más destacadas son Sotileza (1885), obra en la que retrata la forma de vida de los pescadores, y Peñas arriba (1895), centrada en los habitantes de montaña. Extracto : Docena y media de casucas, algunas de ellas formadas en semicírculo, a lo cual se llamaba plaza, y en el punto más alto de ella una iglesia a la moda del día, es decir, ruinosa a partes, y a partes arruinada ya, era lo que componía años hace, y seguirá componiendo probablemente, un pueblo cuyo nombre no figura en mapa alguno ni debe figurar tampoco en esta historia. En el tal pueblo todos los vecinos eran pobres, incluso el señor cura, que se remendaba sus propios calzones y se aderezaba las cuatro patatas y pocas más alubias con que se alimentaba cada día. Los tales pobres eran labradores de oficio, y todos, por consiguiente, comían el miserable mendrugo cotidiano empapado en el sudor de un trabajo tan rudo como incesante. Todos dije, y dije mal: todos menos uno. Este uno se llamaba Simón Cerojo, que había logrado interesar el corazón de una moza de un pueblo inmediato, la cual moza le trajo al matrimonio cuatro mil reales de una herencia que le cayó de repente un año antes de que Simón la pretendiera. Era Juana, que así se llamaba la moza, más que regularmente vana por naturaleza, a la cual debía algunos favores, no muchos en verdad; pero desde los cuatro mil de la herencia, fué cosa de no podérsela aguantar.
