About the Author Don Douglass began sailing as a youth in Southern California. He is the author of Exploring Vancouver Island's West Coast, and with his wife Réanne he co-authored the acclaimed marine guidebook series Exploring the Inside Passage to Alaska, Exploring the South Coast of British Columbia, Exploring the North Coast of British Columbia and Exploring the San Juan and Gulf Islands. Don holds honorary membership in the International Association of Cape Horners.

Anyone who is fond of sailing will enjoy this tale By Francie In reading Dougass’s graphic descriptions of life-threatening situations, as well as moments of idyllic relaxation, on board The Dauphin Amical, I almost felt that I was there, as part of the crew. Anyone who is fond of sailing will enjoy this tale; stopping in Argentina for repairs from a pitchpole, and then meeting the challenge of sailing the Atlantic to Capetown with a return through the Panama Canal. Various stops in South America and on islands along the way are described in such a way as to make one want to take up a sailor’s life for oneself. I was sorry to come to the end of our voyage.
